For such a generally open minded/progressive podcast this is, I was surprised at how sexist this episode came across. For example, saying “knitting is not masculine”, further pushing the idea that “real men” only do conventionally “masculine” things, and that somehow if a man wants to do feminine things, its bad. Another comment, was that women need a reason to have sex and men need a place. Again, generalisations like this that perpetuate the notion that women don’t like sex as much as men, and that men will hump anything is harmful to both genders. Comments were made implying women need more reassurance/are more needy than men, and then there was the comment made at the end by Elle that if your partner isn’t having sex with you they are getting it elsewhere. Beliefs like that will damage relationships where lack of sex is due to an actual health issue/loss of libido or something else easily worked on.
Anyway, rant over. I’m just disappointed that both Elle and Thor made comments that perpetuate sexist beliefs that hurt both men AND women.
